A Personal Story #IHATEMYSKIN

Being a beauty blogger is pretty incredible, it’s one of the best ever decisions I’ve ever made in my life, writing about skin care and beauty products. I never thought I’d be working with some of the most renowned beauty brands in the world, being featured in various publications from the likes of glossy magazines, appearances on commercial websites and testing the latest revolutionary skin care products for a possible review. I’m one very lucky guy! Hard work sure pays off, but it comes at a price, and that price is dealing with constant skin issues.

Let me tell you my story..

TIME TO OPEN UP

I admit, I have a skin care issue. Testing new and exciting products is truly an addiction that takes over my whole life, but deep down I know what consequences may lie beneath the surface, finding the willpower to stop is always so difficult especially when it’s your hobby and something your truly passionate about.

THE ISSUES

When looking back as a teenager, I never really suffered from skin issues like today, I had a few spots here and there like any other hormonal teenager but nothing quite as serious as now. At present, I’m currently suffering from a couple of dermatitis conditions (because from the excessive use of skin care products), redness and sensitivity (over using exfoliating products, interrupting skin’s natural barrier function). I’ve also been told that I have a body image disorder; not really blogging related but I’m guessing if your skin isn’t looking its best, then that’s probably not going to help my self-esteem and body image issues. After all, don’t most of us have something we don’t like about our bodies? Why make matters worse? Do you see my point?

SELF INFLICTED

I’m only to blame. Only recently, it has dawned upon me to create a blog post something quite personal, and what better moment to write a touching story when skin is playing havoc due to the constant use of lotions and potions. I don’t blame anyone or brands, only myself, it’s called self-inflicted. All my product reviews are 100% honest. 99.9% I see real results, results that I’m proud of, although the majority of the time I develop side effects, these side effects are sometimes harder to cure than the actual problem of what that specific product was designed to do.

I’M NOT HAPPY

I’m never happy with the way my skin looks, even if I see positive results from a product. I have this terrible habit at looking into a mirror and judging every imperfection, I guess a lot of people can relate to this, even on best skin days I’m unhappy with the way my skin looks and feels. In reality, no matter how much you splurged on fancy high-tech skin creams with some x ingredient, you’ll never be 100% happy with how your skin looks and feels and that’s the fact of life. Everyone has their own insecurities, and the main insecurity I have is my skin. I’ll never be 100% happy with my skin, but there this always room for improvement.

GOING FORWARD

When your constantly swapping around your daily skin care regime like a pick and mix sweet stall, it can sometimes feel pressurizing and in a way exhausting. There’s always a solution for every issue, for me, it’s to become more aware of what x magical cream I’m about to apply on my face and really think if applying all these lotions and potions is truly worth it, that’s my going forward plan of action. Do I risk the possibility of an unwanted side effect?

I will be continuing with my passion of writing and studying about skin care and beauty, I can assure you that won’t be changing at any moment in time. Going forward from now is to become more aware of what x product I decide to slather on my skin, I’ve learnt my lesson the hard way.

This resonated with me from the first paragraph! I can empathise with you as so often I buy cosmetics and skincare only to be disappointed in the end result, not because of the products themselves but because of how they look on me! Thank you for being so honest in your post – it means a lot to me that you have written this. Thank you. X
