PerriconeMD Hypoallergenic Gentle Cleanser and Nourishing Moisturiser

Powerful but effective, the Dr. Perricone Hypoallergenic Gentle Cleanser is the PERFECT choice for people (like myself) with sensitive skin. While deeply eliminating dirt, oil and make-up, users will not need to worry about this cleanser stripping the skins natural moisture barrier which is vital if you’re not wanting your skin to look like an old creased jumper!

It’s main ingredient; Olive Polyphenols – if you are feeling puzzled by this particular  ingredient (like I did!) then allow me to explain…

Olive Polyphenols rare extracts of Hydroxytyrosol from an olive leaf (an anti-flammatory in olives!) and Oleuropein from an olive fruit (benefits include anti-bacterial and anti-fungal). Other ingredients include; Green Tea Extract, Neuropeptides and Tocotrienols (a member of the vitamin C family!).

What I loved most about using this was that I knew my skin wasn’t going to be covered with nasty chemicals! I would be lying to you if I said there wasn’t any chemicals in this product but it’s nice to see that it doesn’t contain the ‘common‘ ones; parabens, sulfates, petroleum, phthalates, fragrance, synthetic dyes and mineral oil (WOOHOO!).

I was happy that it didn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry but instead gave my skin that extra moisture! I did find it odd for the first few days not using a muslin cloth with my usual cleansing balm but I did enjoy using this mainly in the shower. There is an ever so slight chemical scent but that didn’t bother me. I didn’t notice any break-outs when using this which for me is a bonus as gel-based products always seem to bring me out in red blotches and boils (I know, NOT NICE!).

I’ve been using this cleanser every morning for two weeks and have noticed an improvement in the clarity and texture of my skin (RESULT!).

Overall, this product is a great way for sensitive skins to jump on the Perricone bandwagon whilst still achieving the ‘Perricone glow’. If you didn’t get on with his other cleansers (like I did) then why not give this one a whirl!

Now, the Hypoallergenic Nourishing Moisturiser is the FIRST moisturiser i’ve used from the Dr. Perricone MD line. This product provides the same benefits as the cleanser but in a moisturiser! Using the same ingredients; Olive Polyphenols, Neuropeptides and Tocotrienols.

On first application; I couldn’t believe how quickly the cream absorbed into my skin, interestingly, it had a kind of ‘comforting effect’ on the skin which I’ve never experienced before. Think of this product as an instant relief cream, incredibly soothing while protecting any irritation or redness on the skin. Thankfully, this cream didn’t break me out (HAPPY!).

If you live in a hot climate then I probably wouldn’t recommend using this during the day as this might be a little too heavy for your skin and personally, I have only been using this at night time. Why would you use a moisturiser crammed full of skin-benefitical ingredients in the day-time? The air, pollution, environment-aggressions and sun are going to deterate these ingredients throughout the day. Again, only a slight chemical scent which you wouldn’t expect from a hypoallergenic range.

This actually makes a splendid primer for make-up application, I found it easier, and more manageable to blend my concealer into the skin, resulting in a more natural-look than before. I do find you have to use a bit more product than your usual cream which for me is disappointing and I can imagine the product not lasting for more than a month or two.

The conclusion is I probably wouldn’t purchase this in the future, there are many lower-cost creams out on the market that do the same job! The downside is, once the air gets into the jar, the ingredients become un-stable. On a positive note, Perricone have used dark-coloured jars to protect the ingredients from sunlight.
